The Sauerland has always been a favourite place for winter sports. Cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, bob-sleighing and even ski jumping all have their place here.
The Rothaar cross-country ski run between the Albrechtsplatz and the Rhein-Weser tower runs just 100 m from the hotel and in total provides 52 km of mechanically prepared cross-country skiing pleasure. Should the weather look less like snow, cross-country skiers can go to the neighbouring Westfeld cross-country skiing centre, at additional cost, where some of the pistes are covered using snow-machines.
For walkers, we have a large selection of different circular and one-way paths, so that you’ll never get bored even in the depths of winter. Meanwhile, the little ones can have fun building snowmen or sledging on the Schlittenberg on the hotel’s own sledges.
For those who like a little more speed, the Schmallenberg Sauerland offers numerous downhill pistes with a lift. The closest downhill piste is about 8 km away in Schmallenberg. A more sweeping ski area with more certainty of snow can be found in Altastenberg and Winterberg, approx. 20 km from the Jagdhaus.
In addition, in Winterberg you can find a bob-sleigh and toboggan run, where you can get a real feel for top-class sport in a piloted tandem bob-sleigh. The bob-sleigh and toboggan run in Winterberg is also the venue for national and international bob-sleigh competitions.
A particular highlight in the annual winter sports calendar is international ski-jumping on the Mühlenkopf jump about 45 km away in Willingen.
