642 metres altitude - 1,000 possibilities

Welcome to the hiking paradise!

Hiking is a low-threshold sport that connects all generations: Put on your shoes, open the door and off you go! The fresh air and the intense experience of nature while hiking or Nordic walking clears your head and is good for your health.

The Rothaarsteig, which leads directly across the terrace of our holiday hotel, has paved the way for the "new hiking". The network of paths in the Schmallenberger Sauerland - even away from the popular main hiking trail - is perfectly signposted with a modern hiking guidance system, comfortable "forest sofas" have replaced the old park benches in many places and narrow paths and tracks have been rediscovered as natural hiking trails.

Jagdhaus itself is part of the Rothaarsteig fillet section and therefore the perfect starting point for a hiking holiday in the Sauerland. Situated at an altitude of 642 metres on a high plateau of the Rothaar ridge, there are numerous hiking options directly from the hotel: Starting with well-marked circular walks of between 4 and 26 kilometres in length, some of which are completely without any significant inclines, through to destination hikes, for example to Schanze, Latrop or the town centre of Schmallenberg. On the way back you can use the Schmallenberger Sauerland hiking bus - free of charge in conjunction with your Schmallenberger Sauerland Card!

Hiking highlights and premium hiking trails such as the Forest Sculpture Trail or the Wittgenstein Slate Trail are also within easy reach of our hotel. So nothing stands in the way of a varied hiking holiday in Schmallenberg in the Sauerland.

The Sauerland is also an excellent place to explore by bike. Right from the hotel's front door there are a number of beautiful tours with different levels of difficulty.

Well-maintained mountain bikes and cycle helmets for adults and children are available free of charge. In addition, the tourist information office in Schmallenberg rents out high-quality e-bikes with special tyres and robust construction, which are suitable for off-road cycling as well as for tours on the well-developed cycle paths, especially the popular Sauerland Radring.

If you bring your own bike, we will be happy to provide you with a parking space with charging facilities in our bike garage, free of charge of course.

Winter sports in the Sauerland

winterwanderweg-jagdhaus-sauerland-min

Winter sports in the Sauerland have a long tradition: cross-country skiing and downhill skiing are just as much at home in the Sauerland as tobogganing, ski jumping and bobsleighing.

A small winter sports paradise opens up around Jagdhaus Wiese for winter holidaymakers:

The Rothaarloipe runs just 100 metres from the hotel and offers a total of 52 km of machine-groomed cross-country skiing fun. If the weather is not quite so snow-sure, cross-country skiers will get their money's worth at the nearby Westfeld cross-country skiing centre, where some of the pistes are covered with artificial snow.

For hikers, we clear several different circular and destination trails, so that even in the depths of winter there is no chance of boredom. Meanwhile, the little ones can build a snowman or have fun with the hotel's own toboggans on the sledging hill.

For those who prefer a faster pace, the Schmallenberger Sauerland offers numerous downhill slopes with lifts. The nearest downhill slope is about 8 kilometres away in Schmallenberg. A more extensive and snow-sure ski area can be found in Altastenberg and Winterberg, approx. 20 km from Jagdhaus.

In Winterberg you will also find a bobsleigh and toboggan run, where you have the opportunity to experience the real feeling of top-class sport in a taxibob in winter. The bobsleigh and toboggan run in Winterberg is also the venue for national and international bobsleigh competitions.

Special highlights in the annual winter sports calendar are the international ski jumping competitions on the Mühlenkopf ski jump in Willingen, approx. 45 km away.

The hotel's own tennis court is located under shady beech trees 200 metres from the hotel. As a hard court with an asphalt surface, it dries quickly and can be played on in almost any weather. The tennis court is available to you free of charge.
